First Impressions Count

Dressing for business success doesn’t just stop at your interview. Your visual aesthetic presented to others is critical, what you wear can affect the way employees perceive and treat you.

We have put some considerations together to ensure you are dressing for the ultimate business professional success, from the interview room to the boardroom:

Dress to Your Day
Law firms, Finance and Construction have clear guidelines about what they should wear to work. However other industries may not have a set uniform. If you don’t know what you should wear on your first day, it is always better to look overdressed than under. For business professional’s smart casual is usually the norm, with ladies wearing black trousers or skirts and button up blouses and males wearing trousers and polos or a button up business shirt and a tie.  Try to fit in with the culture of your workplace, dressing in a manner appropriate to the business.

Be Neat
As important as what you are wearing into the office your grooming habits are essential when entering the workplace. Ensure you are arriving into the business in a clean and neat and presentable manner. This includes your fingernails, clean teeth, shoes, tidy hair and natural face.

Wear the right size
It may seem obvious but ensure you wear appropriate well fitted clothing. Wearing too big, loose fitting clothing may give the impression that you are haphazard about your appearance. Ensure the clothing is an appropriate length, not too short and not too tight. Remember ladies, you are not dressing for a night out.

Grooming Choices
Access your grooming style, if you are in an administrative role you may be the face of the business and the first person that customers see when they walk into the door. Ensure that for ladies, make-up is kept neutral and not too overdone. Too much colour is very distracting, simple and natural tones are best for your face. Keep your hair out of your face and ensure it is brushed neatly.
