Here are some tips on how to better manage your time and better balance your lifestyle.

Create a daily plan

Create a daily plan before your day unfolds, this is best done as soon as you get into the office and sit down at your desk. Take into consideration your meetings and their times and plan around your tasks. Whether this is created online or a piece of paper in a notebook, find what works best for you.

Use A Diary or Organiser

Whether you are electronically savvy or prefer to write down on something physical like a notepad. Using a diary or organiser is one of the best ways for you to stay on top of everything that is going on in your life, both work and personal. Using a central point where you can house and organise information, your to-do lists, meetings, appointments, projects and other miscellaneous items.

Once you have written out your daily list, set time limits against each task. This will ensure you are keeping track of how much time you are spending on each task. At the end of the week you can examine your lists and find where you are spending most of your time and reaccess this for the following week.

Learn to say “No”

One of the most common causes of stress and disorganisation is by having a mile long to-do list, taking on too much and not having enough time to complete it all. Learn how to say ‘no’ to additional or unimportant requests. By learning and practicing phases you will gain more confidence to respond and let people down gently.

Phrases such as:

“Unfortunately I cannot commit to this task as I have other priorities and deadlines to meet at the moment” or communicate directly to your Manager  “could you assist me to re-prioritise my tasks list so that I can take that project on’’.
