Tips for Conflict Resolution

We have all been in a difficult situation both inside and outside the workplace but it’s how we communicate and manage the situation to ensure a successful outcome. We share our strategies for assisting you in managing conflict situations quickly and peacefully for both parties:

Remain Cool, Calm & Collected

Arguing is ineffective it raises barriers, blood pressure, and will not achieve anything. Be calm, still and say nothing, walk away if the situation is getting too heated.

Consider the other persons point of view

Genuinely consider the other person’s point of view, listen to what they are saying. It is not productive to say ‘You are wrong’, consider the areas of agreement of both sides and build from there.

Focus on Your Goals and Outcomes

By staying focused on both parties points of disagreement will only keep you there.  Focus on how to attain the goals and outcomes shared by both and find a way around the problem.

Positive Attitude

Negativity is catching, but so is positive energy. Shifting our thinking from a negative one and focusing on positive thoughts and behaviours may take some time but is well worth the results and outcome. Before you disagree with a person, outline your reasoning and summarise your understanding of the other person’s view. Consider your response and communicate how you see it from your point of view.

Work together to create a WIN/WIN Situation

Share information, discuss your ideas, wants and needs and search for a solution that meets as many of these as possible, to create a positive outcome for all involved. By sharing both parties thoughts will increase the commitment to a win-win conflict outcome and understanding of both parties at the same time.
